What are the main factors that lead to war?

Over the course of the years, there have been many bloody, vicious wars. Many were between countries and some were civil. This blog post will be on the main factors that lead to war.

These factors are combined in an acronym called MANIA. Militarism, Alliances, Nationalism, Imperialism and Assassination.

Militarism- When counties are obsessed with their army, fearing attack by their neighbours and the want to invade nearby countries to gain more land and influence. This can also be a naval race between different countries.

Alliances- Are agreements formed to protect countries from each other. These alliances reflected which countries considered themselves to have similar aims and who consider themselves to be their greatest rivals.

Nationalism-  is very closely linked to empire and imperialism. Nationalism, the love of one’s country, is usually considered to be positive. Loyalty to the same set of values and beliefs is what unites the people of a country. However, when nationalism becomes too strong, and the supporters of a country are too extreme in their support, nationalism becomes aggressive. In other words, Nationalism is the extreme belief that your country is better than others.

ImperialismImperialism is the ideology of extending the rule over people and other countries, for extending political and economic access, power and control, often through employing hard power, especially military force.

Assassination- A planned murder of a person can be politically motivated or to better one's position.

Imperialism vs Colonialism

Imperialism means creating an empire, expanding into the neighbouring regions and expanding its dominance far. While colonialism is when a country conquers and rules over other regions. It means exploiting the resources of the conquered country for the benefit of the conqueror.
Patriotism vs Nationalism
By patriotism, I mean devotion to a particular place and particular way of life, which one believes to be the best in the world but has no wish to force upon other people. Patriotism is of its nature defensive both militarily and culturally. Nationalism, on the other hand, is inseparable from the desire for power.
